Familiars are companions that follow you through a run and attack on their own. This build ships 3 familiar sheet with full numbers, plus a butterfly granted by a tarot card.

What a familiar is

A familiar is a small companion that follows your character through a run and attacks on its own. You never aim it: it picks the closest monster on screen and goes after it on a timer.

You carry one familiar at a time. It is saved with your run.

Familiars with a full sheet

3 familiars ship with real numbers in this build.

How often it attacks

It attacks on a timer. Anything that raises your attack rate shortens the wait, and so does missing health. Your attack rate bonus divides the wait.

Missing health speeds it up too: the attack rate rises by 10% for each point of health you are down, while the perk that turns that on is active.

The butterfly familiar

The butterfly is not one of the familiar sheets above. It is a flying damage effect that picks a monster, flies at it, and damages whatever it touches on the way. It is not marked as familiar damage, so Familiar Strength does not boost it.

It is granted by:

Familiar Strength

Familiar Strength starts a run at 0%. Every hit from a damage effect marked as familiar damage gains its starting damage multiplied by Familiar Strength.

8 damage effects in this build are marked as familiar damage, so Familiar Strength boosts every one of them:

The rest of the roster

The game keeps a roster of 8 familiar names. 3 of them ship as a full sheet with damage and timing. The rest are here, and they are not all in the same state.

These have a written attack in the game's code but no sheet, so they have no damage number, no timing and no art to show:

  • Fairy: Fires its attack at the monster nearest you, then flies to another point around you. It only fires while a monster is on screen.
  • Djinn: Carries a ring around itself and damages every monster inside that ring on each attack. The damage counts as fire spell damage.

These are names only. Nothing in this build gives them an attack or a sheet:

  • Baby Broodlisk
  • Tinkerer
  • Imp
