Mechanics/Affinity and prestige

Affinity and prestige

Two different ways a spell gets stronger: one you keep between runs, one you pick inside a run.

Affinity

Affinity is a spell's own mastery level, and it carries over between runs. Casting a spell earns it spell XP: each cast is worth the cast's XP value multiplied by 100, and again by the spell's mana cost divided by 5 when that cost is above 5, so expensive spells earn faster.

Level I5 000 spell XP
Level II15 000 spell XP
Level III65 000 spell XP

Each level is applied on top of the ones below it, every run, so a spell at Level III carries all three bonuses.

Thresholds on the end-of-run screen, and the bonuses each spell lists.

9 of these levels change nothing in this build. Spells with their own kind of affinity bonus (Chain Lightning, Ice Spear, Magic Missile, Meteor Swarm and the ones that only change their firing rate) replace the shared bonus code instead of adding to it, so a damage or cost value stored on the same level is never read. Marked does nothing above.
4 levels marked mana cost. The shared bonus code writes its amount bonus onto the spell's mana cost, so those levels raise the cost instead of raising the amount.

Prestige

Prestige is a level up card that changes how one spell behaves for the rest of that run. Taking the card sets the spell's prestige mode; each spell has its own short list of them, and each spell page shows what its options do.

Which prestige cards exist for each spell, and how they apply.
